Elegant and richly expressive, this unusually large vintage Italian micro mosaic box pairs a rare, pot-shaped metal form with an exquisite field of tightly set tesserae. A ring of crisp white daisies radiates across a turquoise ground, each petal cut by hand and placed with meticulous precision. The depth of the recessed setting, paired with the jewel-tone palette, creates the feeling of a tiny garden preserved beneath glass.
Circling the rounded bronze body, raised metalwork flowers add dimensional detail and echo the floral theme of the mosaic. The workmanship is unmistakably early (likely late 19th to early 20th century) with its denser tesserae, deeper well, and more sculptural silhouette. Inside, the domed lid opens to reveal a surprisingly spacious interior, once used for snuff, balm, or tiny keepsakes carried on the Grand Tour.
Pieces of this shape and scale are exceptionally hard to find. With its tight micro-tessellated daisies, old-world patina, and sculptural presence, this box feels less like an object and more like a miniature heirloom vessel.
