Rich and ornate, this vintage Italian micro mosaic pill box from the 1920–30s dazzles with its intricate, densely layered bouquet. Four vivid focal blooms of deep red, warm orange, golden yellow, and soft pink encircle a cluster of tiny white, blue, and pale green florets, creating a composition bursting with early 20th-century color and complexity. Each petal is shaped from hand-cut glass tesserae and set against a sleek black ground that heightens the vibrancy of every hue.
Every tessera was placed individually, the early craftsmanship evident in the tight floral clustering, irregular micro-shapes, and the expressive arrangement characteristic of mosaics from this period. A delicate red-and-white border frames the round design, all held within a darkened metal casing that carries the soft patina of age.
Collected as cherished Grand Tour souvenirs, micro mosaic boxes from the 1920–30s represent some of Italy’s most characterful miniature artistry. With its bold palette, densely detailed patterning, and early date, this example is both a striking keepsake container and a beautifully preserved piece of Italian history.
